People like George Lilanga, Twins Seven-Seven, Chéri Samba or Malangatana to name just a few, are amongst the most well known and respected artists of our time. Besides their enormous talent, these extraordinary artists have one other thing in common: Africa.

We proudly present original works by these and other internationally renowned artists such as Owusu-Ankomah, Armand Boua or Aboudia, major names of the so-called Contemporary African Art. Artists whose work is represented in all major contemporary art museums from the Centre George Pompidou in Paris to the Houston Museum of Modern Art or the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Their work is also present in seminal private collections such as the Sindika Dokolo Collection or Jean Pigozzi's Contemporary African Art Collection (CAAC).

Founded in 2005, AFRICAN|CONTEMPORARY is based in Lisbon, Portugal and has over 20 years of experience in international shipping. We work with private collectors and institutions around the world and several works that have passed through the gallery are also documented in international auction provenance records.
