Margaret Majo, 1956

Margaret Majo is a craft artist and one of the first — and still one of the few — to specialize in painting bottle tops.

Born in 1956 in Murewa, Zimbabwe, Majo first trained at the Chinembiri Training Centre in Mbare, where she learned practical skills and income-generating crafts. She later studied design and illustration at the Harare Polytechnic, further refining her artistic technique.

In 1991, her work was selected for the Zimbabwe Heritage Exhibitions at the National Gallery — a significant milestone that helped establish her reputation. Since then, she has exhibited in several galleries and continues to be recognized for her unique and inventive approach to materials.
